The long version, YES you need to read it.

The theme of the match is hard.  In the spirit of the match you are required to use and navigate all props and obstacles.  This is not a gaming match and efforts to do so may incur procedural penalties at RO discretion.

Coaching and helping:  The RO staff will do their best to keep you out of trouble and avoid running past a target.  I encourage you to verbally or physically help your squad mates during the course of fire.  I draw the line at pulling the trigger for them.

1.  Match will be run as a COLD RANGE

1.1 - COLD RANGE (definition): Participants firearms will remain unloaded at the match site except under the direction of a match official. Ensure all firearms to be used are unloaded prior to entering the range complex!  Having a loaded firearm without authorization from the RO will result in a match DQ.

1.3 - Unless under the control of an RO, all guns must be carried with the muzzle up & chamber flag inserted. Detachable magazines must be removed & tubes unloaded.

1.4 - Handguns must be bagged or remain in holster with magazine removed, only to be handled in a safe area or under the direction of a RO.

1.5 - Eye & ear protection is mandatory for participants, spectators & range personnel at the match site.

2.  Firearm Safety

2.5 – Rifle - On all stages (unless otherwise stated in the Written Stage Brief) the Rifle ready condition is empty

2.6 – Shotgun - On all stages (unless otherwise stated in the WSB) the Shotgun ready condition is empty

2.7 – Pistol - On all stages, (unless otherwise stated in the WSB) the handgun ready Condition is empty

2.10 - Firearms will be required to be abandoned during the course of fire.  Firearms are required to be completely unloaded when dumped unless specified by the WSB.

2.11 – Gun Caddy – If required by the WSB you must designate a friend (or fellow squad mate if you have no friends) to be your gun caddy while you shoot. It is the Caddies responsibility to get your EMPTY (unless specified in the WSB) guns from dump locations & if required, place them in the designated pick up location to be used again or to present them to the RO for Show Clear

2.12 – High value target procedure - Dump the mag, shoot the target with the round in the chamber. This is to ensure the gun is cleared while under the supervision of the RO

2.15 – Stage Reshoots will only be authorised by the RM or MD.

2.16 – Reshoots will not be granted for loss of eye or hearing protection during the course of fire unless the safety equipment is broken.  Safely pick it up, put it back on and get back in the game.

3.4 - A participant shall be disqualified from the Match for dropping a loaded firearm.  Dropping an unloaded firearm is not a safety issue, pick it up and move on.

3.5 - A participant shall be disqualified for allowing the muzzle of his/her loaded firearm to sweep themselves, a person or go outside of the specified safety angles

3.5.1 - A participant shall be YELLED at for getting close to an unsafe muzzle direction.  Lack of verbal warning before “STOP” does not relieve shooter of the sole responsibility for their actions.

4.2 - Competitors with a proven handicap or physical concern may be given approval by the RM/MD to complete a course of fire in a manner other than intended, however an applicable penalty may be assessed at the discretion of the RM/MD. Such a penalty will be assessed to reflect the true nature of the benefit, not as a punitive means. This is to encourage participation in the physical or shooting challenge

4.3 - Offensive clothing.  If clothing offends you this may not be the match for you.

5.  Ammunition

5.1 – 22lr only for LBP & rifle.

8.  Scoring

8.1 - Scoring on each stage will be time plus penalties. Each stage will be worth 100 points; competitor with lowest total time (raw time plus penalties) earns 100 points, everyone else in that division is factored from that time. A maximum time allowed to shoot any stage will be 240 seconds unless specified in the WSB

8.1.2 - Any paper target designated as a “shoot” target requires two (2) or more hits inside the target scoring perforations to neutralize. (Slug targets MAY be exempted from this rule and only require one (1) hit inside a designated scoring perforation.)

8.1.3 - A paper target engaged by firing at least one round at it, but with no hits, is a Failure To Neutralize. Such a target will receive a minimum of a 20 second penalty for the misses.

8.1.4 - Paper targets which have less than the required number of hits will receive a 10 second penalty for each hit less than that required number.

8.1.5 - A paper or steel target which is not engaged by firing at least one round at it will receive a 10 second penalty per miss for not making the required hit(s) on the target and an additional 10 seconds, per target, for a Failure To Engage (FTE).

8.1.6 - Paper targets used in the match may be IPSC (old style), the new IPSC “Classic”, pizza boxes, empty beer cans, House For Sale signs or any other target approved by the Match Director.

8.1.8 - Steel targets (i.e. knock downs, poppers, plates, flashers or other steel) must fall or ring the designated amount of times to score. A miss will incur a 10 second penalty.  Targets are the same for everyone, you will NOT be granted a reshoot due to lack of calibration.  The RO may issue a verbal “hall pass” if he witnesses multiple hits that fail to activate a knock-down target.

8.1.9 - Frangible targets must break to score. (One hole is a break.)

8.1.10 - The RO or a designated spotter may call hits on static steel & long-range targets

8.2 - Fault lines may be hard or soft.  Soft fault lines may include caution tape, rope or ground paint

8.2.1 - Hard fault lines will incur a 10 second Foot Fault Penalty for each hit made while over the line.

8.2.3 - Soft fault lines are only there to keep you in a general shooting area.  Penalties will only be issued for gross disregard or ignoring the RO warnings.

9.  Failure to complete the stage within the maximum time

9.1 - The shooter will be stopped by the RO at the designated Time Out and assessed a stage time equal to the Maximum time plus all applicable penalties.

9.2 - Targets not engaged in maximum time will incur FTE penalties in addition to all other applicable penalties.

9.3 - Higher penalties are imposed for designated high value targets.

10.  Arbitration Rules & General Principles

10.1 - Administration – Occasional disputes are inevitable in any competitive activity governed by rules. It is recognized that at the more significant levels of competition, emotions run high and the outcome is much more important to the individual competitor. Remaining calm and rational while arbitrating disputes will make this unpleasant job easier.

10.2 - Access – Protests may be submitted for arbitration with the exception of the actual scoring of targets. Protests arising from a safety infraction will only be accepted to determine whether or not an infraction as described by the range official was in fact unsafe.

10.3 - Appeals – Decisions are made initially by the RO for the stage or area. If the complainant disagrees with a decision, the RM should be summoned and asked to rule. If a disagreement still exists, the MD must be summoned and asked to rule. His decision is final.

11.  Beards

11.1 - The minimum requirements for a beard is hair that goes from ear to ear and is at least as long as a 9mm cartridge measured at the chin.
